Stu and the Void

“Gazing at the faces of the horses and the people, at this boundless stream of life raised up by the power of my will and now hurtling into nowhere across the sunset-crimson steppe, I often think: where am I in this flux?”
-Ghengis Khan
Rob’s post last week (the one where he called me “brilliant”) was also quite memorable. It prompted me to go out and buy every Handsome Family CD I could get my hands on. I’ve listened to them pretty much non-stop. Their music puts me in a sour mood, and I like it. This addition to my music collection can be described with one word – progress.
So: the monster moves on. The blog posts pile up, and is there anything to show for it? Have we unveiled the monster’s true nature, or will progress itself succumb to the Clay Machine-gun and the virtue of Buddha’s Little Finger?
Death Cab For Cutie – This Temporary Life
Townes Van Zandt – Nothin’
Jeff Buckley – Eternal Life
Tim Buckley – Once I Was
Bonnie “Prince” Billie – Strange Form of Life
Jerry Jeff Walker – Song For The Life
Hank Williams – I’ll Never Get Out Of This World Alive
Lyle Lovett – Highway Kind (Townes cover, again)
The Highwaymen – Highway man (Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash)
Pink Floyd – Scream Thy Last Scream (oh yeah, super f-ed up)
Good post. Kudos on the Syd Barrett tune.
